Good
morning !
One more!
When
the kids were younger I took them to a Minnesota Twins baseball
clinic. One player that stood out was the catcher, Brian Harper.
It was what he told the kids not what he showed them that was
impressive. He told us that he took an extra 30minutes of
batting practice every day. Why? The practice gave him at least
one "extra" pitch for each at bat if he could at least make
contact. That one pitch could mean one more hit per game. That
Hit could lead to one more base runner and even one more run per
game. Another run….maybe another win per series. That "extra"
series per season could lead to a playoff birth. One more
playoff game might mean a pennant. One more pennant could lead
to one more ring.
One
more patient enrolled one day "early" into a cancer study due to
your efforts could mean that:
-
the study was completed a day earlier because of that
patient's data.
-
the study was written up a day earlier
-
the study was submitted for publication a day earlier
-
the study makes the July issue of the journal instead of
August publication
-
the NDA submission to the FDA was ready a month "early"
-
the FDA reviews the drug at this month's meeting instead of
next month's
-
the cancer patient receives the drug "early" because of all of
the above effort
-
the cancer was one day from critical mass but responds to the
new treatment
-
the patient lives and is loved for more than just "one more
day"
I'm
sure you do something between baseball and caner research but
the lesson still applies. What is your "lifetime batting
average"? What is your average for just today? Will you give that little "extra"
push? You may never know the full effect but it may be worth it
to a fellow human.
Do a
little bit "extra" each day and you develop a habit of
excellence that could lead to bigger and better things for you,
your company, your country, and your world. Imagine if everyone
did…..
ps
Brian Harper's career batting average was 0.295 (In over 3,300
at bats he struck out only 182 times)

ps. Best answer this
week to the question "How are you?"
was "Better than a poke in the eye with a
sharp stick!"
