09-05-2005 Quote of the day: Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read. Groucho Marx (1890 - 1977)
Dog gone Ruffle went to the "big bone yard" this weekend after 16 plus years of carrying the title "Best Dog in the Entire World" (at least for our family). She had a dog's life (eat, sleep, walk/run/play, repeat); which sounds pretty good in this crazy human existence we lead. She found her share of trouble… she could leap 5-foot fences as a puppy and the sharp little teeth marks were found in things for which they were not designed. She would go through tennis balls faster than John McEnroe. Through all this we loved our Chocolate-Lab-Afghan mix (she looked a little like Tina Turner) because she always seemed to give more than she received. We will miss her. Some people love their dogs more than other people. Why? - dogs listen when you speak - dogs never interrupt - dogs never give advice - dogs don't care what you are wearing (and have little use for clothes themselves) - dogs think that "bad hair days" are funny - dogs are happy to see you whenever you get home (and the longer you have been away, the happier they are) - dogs are eager to please - dogs (whether dachshund or mastiff) are protective of their homes and people . and finally - dogs can soak up any excess love and affection you happen to have on you.
Maybe we can learn something from these mutts. Listen more than we speak, try always to please, and protect those around us. Wishing you a dog's life!
... now I'll go lay by my dish (until next week), ==================================================== pss. Best answer this week to the question "How are you?" was "Fit as a fiddle and only slightly out of tune."

==================================================== 1) Illegal to sue to enforce illegal activity in Minnesota Dog-gone it! Groups tried to sue pharmaceutical companies to force them to supply drugs for re-sale into the USA. Drug companies can continue to restrict drug sales to pharmacies who sell illegally into the states. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000082&sid=aHjxSZISOvEU&refer=canada 2) Hassett hacks horrified hatchet hounds Kevin Hassett explains why the drug industry is unfairly maligned. The engine of new drug breakthroughs for the world lives in the USA. (Used to be Europe). Taking the profit motive out of the equation will turn us into a "Europe" and deprive the planet of new drugs. http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000039&refer=columnist_hassett&sid=agyGgn3MYGDg 3) Katrina FDA gives guidelines for food safety, prescription drugs stressed by flooding or high temperatures, insulin storage, and more. (Even how to protect your pets). Give what you can to help out.... Man (and woman's) best freind doe not HAVE to be a dog! http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/hurricane.html 4) DacOGen received "Approvable letter" last Thursday. http://www.pharmalive.com/news/index.cfm?articleID=268767&categoryid=9&newsletter=1 or company news release. http://investors.mgipharma.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=73842&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=751908&highlight= 5) Flu-be-doo-bee-Doo Looks more like an ad for Flu-mist but the CDC has ok'd the use of the nasal form of influenza vaccination for those non-pregnant aged 5-49 years. Get your vaccination, by needle or nose early this flu season. http://www.pharmalive.com/news/index.cfm?articleID=268802&categoryid=9&newsletter=1 6) High Iron and High cholesterol= Bye Bye High iron and high cholesterol levels linked to higher rates of cancer( by 168%) ! ... not great news for lovers of red meat which contains iron AND cholesterol. http://preventdisease.com/news/articles/062905_high_iron_cholesterol.shtml 7) Cell phone a "no-brainer" The issue of a potential link between cell phone use and brain cancer comes up at least once a year, about the time that rabies shots are due. Study finds NO LINK between cell phone use and cancer. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9131704/ ...and another dog Quote: My dog is worried about the economy because Alpo is up to 99 cents a can. That's almost $7.00 in dog money. Joe Weinstein ------------ Have a SUPER-FANTASTIC week.
